The
team has maximized the use of Computer-Aided Design techniques which
greatly enhance the quality and production rate. The firm uses sixteen
Pentium Class 4, With 2 to 3 gigahertz Processors CAD workstations with
very large hard drives and between 2-GIG and 4-GIG RAM. The system employs
network servers with up to 600 Gigabyte hard drives and CD / DVD / CD_RW
-Rom drives. Productivity and teamwork are increased by network
integration, which allows the engineering, designing, and drafting
to flow efficiently between all design functions. AutoCAD
2004,2005,2006 (Windows 2000 & XP Pro based) Operating Systems are
supplemented with the latest civil engineering software for
automation of analysis and design, as follows:
Eagle Point Software (formerly EDSC):
-
Surface Modeling: Contouring
-
Site Design: Design contours, site earthwork, slope analysis
-
Site Design: Design contours, site earthwork, slope analysis
-
Storm Sewers: Analysis, design, and drafting
-
Sanitary Sewers: Analysis, design, and drafting
-
Hydrology: Stormwater runoff, detention ponds
-
Hydraulics: Open & closed channel analysis & design
Landcadd (Windows-based):
-
Operations Package: Includes automated quantity takeoffs &
estimating
-
Site Planning: Site analysis, layout, and drafting utilities
-
Quadrangle: Contouring and advanced site analysis
-
Civil Construction Details: Drafting utility and CAD detail
blocks
-
Site Construction Details: Drafting utility and CAD detail
blocks
Haestad Methods:
-
Cybernet: Water System Modeling inside AutoCAD
-
Flowmaster: Hydraulic design
-
WaterCAD: Water system analysis, design, and drafting
-
StormCAD: Storm Sewers analysis, design, and drafting
XP-Software :
-
XP-SWMM: State-of-the-Art stormwater modeling, originally
developed for EPA, with an enhanced user interface by
XP-Software; recently released in a Windows 2000 / XP
version.
Other programs used to increase productivity:
-
MathCAD: Design computations
-
Adobe Photoshop 7.1: Image manipulation software
-
Microsoft Frontpage 2002: Web authoring Tool
KES also uses the latest Windows 2000 / XP-based word processors,
spreadsheets, databases, and design firm accounting packages for
maximum workplace efficiency.
The firm uses the Hewlett Packard DesignJet color inkjet plotter
and color laser printers to produce many of its presentations and construction drawings
in color to enhance the accuracy of cost estimating and the
avoidance of conflicts between construction items.
The firm maximizes quality control by proper use of the computer
for such tasks as management of drawing checks. When used
properly, the computer is the ultimate quality control tool
because it maximizes the design and analysis time while
minimizing the cost of actually producing drawings. The intense
hands-on design experience of the team allows KES to produce
the highest-quality work by taking the fullest advantage of this
feature of CADD.
